2023 Term 3 Week 8
Back to the 80's Dance
The upcoming "Back to the 80's Dance" is generating a buzz throughout the school as classes are diligently rehearsing their routines, aiming to perfect their moves for next Tuesday 12th September. This event promises to transport us back in time, evoking the vibrant pop culture and iconic fashion trends of the 1980's.
I take this opportunity to thank the 'Back to the 80's' committee - Mrs Huggins, Mrs McGregor, Mrs Burgess and Mrs Attard for spending a lot of time behind the scenes to put the performance together and huge thanks also to the teachers for guiding the students with their awesome dance moves!
The 1980s was a decade that left a mark on some of us older folks. It was a time when cassette tapes were tangled up in our car-players, and big hair became a fashion statement. Looking back, it's hard to believe how much has changed since those days. For those who lived through this era, memories will come flooding back as we watch our wonderful students perform.
A final reminder to refer to COMPASS posts to view costume information and how to lock in your FREE ticket!
Thankyou!
On behalf of the St. Joseph's community, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the mothers, grandmothers, and carers who generously assisted at the Father's Day stall last Friday. Your unwavering support and dedication made this event a resounding success.
The Father's Day stall has become an annual tradition at our school, where students have the opportunity to select a special gift for their fathers or father figures. This event not only allows our students to express their love and gratitude but also teaches them the value of giving and appreciation.
Your assistance in helping the students choose the perfect gift was invaluable. Your patience, kindness, and guidance were greatly appreciated by both the children and their fathers. The smiles on their faces as they carefully selected each item were a testament to your efforts.
We understand that organizing such an event requires time and effort on your part. From setting up the stall to managing prized gifts, your commitment ensured that everything ran smoothly. Your willingness to go above and beyond for our students is truly commendable.Your presence made a significant difference in creating a memorable experience for our students. We are fortunate to have such dedicated individuals within our community who are always willing to lend a helping hand.
Thank you for embodying the spirit of St. Joseph's community - one that values compassion, generosity, and unity.

Gospel
Matthew 18:15-20
Jesus teaches his disciples how to settle disputes in the Church.
Jesus responds to the disciples’ question about who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Jesus indicates that those who wish to enter the kingdom of heaven must be like children, and he cautions those leaders who might lead these “little ones” astray. He also responds with the parable of the lost sheep, indicating how God will seek out and bring back those “little ones” who have strayed.
Jesus does not discourage disagreement within the community of the Church; he acknowledges the reality of conflict and error and offers his disciples a means for addressing such matters. It is in the conclusion to this teaching that the message of hope is found: Jesus is present with the community and will guide the community in its relations. If decisions are taken in prayer, then the community can be assured of God’s assistance.
Confirmation
Confirmation Preparation continues tomorrow, Thursday 7th September, starting at 4pm in Ss' Peter & Paul's Cathedral. This session is vital to attend, as it will include the candiates making their Sacrament of Reconciliation (and available to others in the community) and practicing some of the ritual and routine that will occur on the day of their Confirmation Sacrament. If a parent, or the sponsor (or both) could attend that would be beneficial.
Thursday 14th September: Confirmation Reflection Day. A Compass post has gone out the the candidate families, if you have not received/accessed this, please contact Mrs Cady at sasha.cady@cg.catholic.edu.au . The Reflection Day is at Ss' Peter & Paul's Primary. Candiates wear casual clothes, must supply their own lunch and the school has arranged for transport to and from St Joseph's for the day.

Canteen News
Our school canteen is open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Orders need to be placed by Qkr! before 8:30am on the day of order.
Unfortunately, we have had a number students forgetting to place orders and or forgetting lunches.
Whilst we understand accidents happen it does place a large strain on our canteen and office staff to assist in these situations.
To try to avoid this, please follow some of the steps below:
- How to order – place your order using the Qkr! app or write on a paper bag and send the order in with your child.
- Order on the app and confirm the date that you have selected is for the day you require.
- If your child is selecting the food please check it before you confirm the order (we now need to limit garlic bread to students as some were ordering up to 10 in one order)
- If your child is absent and no longer is required to receive the order please cancel prior to 8:30am on the day of order.
You can receive a Qkr credit note if you tap on the 3 lines at the top left of the home screen, select ‘my receipts’ and then select the order you wish to cancel. - If your child doesn’t have a lunch and they realise before 10:00am a phone call will be made to parents to ask them to bring lunch to school for them.
If you are unable we will provide your child with a basic sandwich (vegemite or cheese) and an IOU envelope will be sent home. - IOU’s - if your child brings home an IOU envelope please either return the envelope with cash payment or alternatively you can pay for it via Qkr using the “Canteen Outstanding Amounts”
- If you are unaware of the amount currently outstanding to your child please email canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au and we can advise.
- There is a limit of $10 for over the counter purchases. Please do not send your child in with more than this as we will not accept $50 or $20 notes.
If you need to contact the school about lunch orders, please email canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au or contact the school office 4821 3510 before 9:30 am.
If you are able to volunteer in the canteen please contact the office or email the canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au with your availability.
Thank you to our wonderful volunteers, we really do appreciate your time.
Community Council Meetings
The next Community Council Meeting will be held in term 4 in week 4,

All are welcome to attend!
The Community Council Father’s Day Stall
Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who helped our little rays of sunshine select the perfect gift for their dad. We raised just over $2000 from the Father’s Day Stall, that is an amazing effort!
Summer Uniforms
Hi Everyone,
Can you believe we are over halfway through term 3! Now is a great time to check those summer uniforms and get organised for the change of uniform in term 4 as we head into the warmer months. Short sleeved shirts and shorts with navy socks or summer dresses and white socks are the academic uniforms (black shoes for both). Sports uniform is house colour polo shirt with either royal blue shorts or skort. I am in the process of adding to Qkr! the 2nd hand uniform pieces that I have in the shop. If you have any uniforms that you would like to donate to the uniform shop we always appreciate your generosity. Orders packed each day to be sent home with your child or you can come in and see me in the shop Thursday mornings from 8:45 am. Please try on all clothes with the tags kept on in case they don't fit. All clothing to be returned must be in the original packaging with the tags still on. Feel free to email me if you have any questions! uniform.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au
Thank you! Lauren.
