2024 Term 3 Week 6
Dear Parents & Carers,
On Friday, we will celebrate Father's Day and show our dads /carers just how much they mean to us. Reminder for students to bring in their money for purchase of the gifts.
It is not too late to bring in last minute gifts for our stall on Friday and a huge thankyou to the donations already received. These donations will not only bring joy to the children but also serve as a token of appreciation for all the love and support our fathers / carers have provided. If you are available for an hour or two on Friday morning (after the liturgy) or setting up Thursday afternoon after school please let the front office know. This assistance will ensure that everything runs smoothly.
Cogratulations to the St Joseph's Public Speaking Team...
1ST PLACE to Carter Wykes
Congratulations to our school public speaking team;
Marlee Taylor and Florence Douglas (Year 6) Gracie Croker and Ariana Grant (Year 5) Fraser Taylor and Jemma Burgess (Year 4) and Carter Wykes and Bonaventure Williams (Year 3) who represented Joseph's at the Northern Region Public Speaking competition last Friday. All speakers did an outstanding job and I received feedback that the adjudicators were overwhelmed with the quality of speech content and the professional delivery.
Special congratulations to Carter Wykes who was successful in finishing FIRST on the day. Carter will represent the region at the Arch-Diocesan Speaking Competition on Monday 9th September at St Bernard's Primary School, Batemans Bay.

Well done Chelsea!

Gospel
Mark 7:1-8,14-15,21-23
Jesus teaches that it is that which comes from our hearts that defines us.
Jesus’ first teaching is directed to the Pharisees who questioned him. Jesus’ words are then directed to the crowd, teaching that a person is defined by his or her words and actions, not by the food that he or she eats. Jesus’ words challenge us as well. In our desire to show that we are holy, we might also give too much credence to externals, following rules without thinking about the intention behind them. Jesus reminds us that we do not make ourselves holy by our actions. Rather, we become holy when we allow God’s Spirit to transform us. Our actions should be an expression of the conversion of our heart to God and to God’s ways.
Sacrament of Confirmation
The next Confirmation Session will be tomorrow, Thursday 29th August at 4pm, in Our Lady of Fatima.
- Candidates need to bring their red folders and pencil case.
- Bring your form with your Sponsor, planned Mass attendance & Confirmation Name if you forgot last week or over the weekend
- Please speak with your child about having manners during the session, especially if sitting iwth their firends.
- Parents are welcome to stay or drop and go, ensuring they are back to pick up their child by 5pm.
- Remember, the teachers running the sessions are volunteering their time.
Any queries regarding the Sacrament, please contact the Parish Office for more information.
Session 4
We ask parents &/or sponsors to attend Session 4, in OLOF on Thursday 5th September. During this session, we practice with the candidates and sponsor (or parent) particular parts of the Sacrament so people are more familiar with ritual, actions and responses during the actual Sacrament.
Confirmation Reflection Day
Confirmation Candidates will participate in a Reflection Day on Thursday 12th September at Ss Peter & Paul's Primary. Candidates can wear casual clothes and turn up to school as per normal. We will bus there and back within school hours, so children will be able to leave school as per usual. A Compass note will come out in the following days.
Father's Day Liturgy
A warm welcome to all fathers, grandfathers and father figures to our Father's Day Liturgy, Friday 30th August, starting at 9:30, after the Fathers' Day BBQ breakfast.
If families wait in the pews in the back of OLOF, the children will enter and leave the church with their class teacher, and they can then sit with their dad/family/carer. Once all classes are in, parents, grandparents & carers can fill the spaces within the class
Please remember though, as we are in a Church:
- no eating or drinking in the Church - unless for babies or toddlers, or people with a medical condition
- no talking during or after the liturgy, until outside
- keep talking to a quiet level prior to the Liturgy

Canteen News
Our school canteen is open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Orders need to be placed by Qkr! before 8:30am on the day of order.
Whilst we understand accidents happen it does place a large strain on our canteen and office staff to assist in these situations.
To try to avoid this, please follow some of the steps below:
- How to order – place your order using the Qkr! app or write on a paper bag and send the order in with your child.
- Order on the app and confirm the date that you have selected is for the day you require.
- If your child is selecting the food please check it before you confirm the order (we now need to limit garlic bread to students as some were ordering up to 10 in one order)
- If your child is absent and no longer is required to receive the order please cancel prior to 8:30am on the day of order.
You can receive a Qkr credit note if you tap on the 3 lines at the top left of the home screen, select ‘my receipts’ and then select the order you wish to cancel. - If your child doesn’t have a lunch and they realise before 10:00am a phone call will be made to parents to ask them to bring lunch to school for them.
If you are unable we will provide your child with a basic sandwich (vegemite or cheese) and an IOU envelope will be sent home. - IOU’s - if your child brings home an IOU envelope please either return the envelope with cash payment or alternatively you can pay for it via Qkr using the “Canteen Outstanding Amounts”
- If you are unaware of the amount currently outstanding to your child please email canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au and we can advise.
- There is a limit of $10 for over the counter purchases. Please do not send your child in with more than this as we will not accept $50 or $20 notes.
If you need to contact the school about lunch orders, please email canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au or contact the school office 4821 3510 before 9:30 am.
If you are able to volunteer in the canteen please contact the office or email the canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au with your availability.
Thank you to our wonderful volunteers, we really do appreciate your time.
Community Council Meeting
We invite you to our sixth Meeting of the year, Week 8, Tuesday 10th September .
We will be hosting the meeting at 7pm in the school Library / Open Learning space. All are welcome to attend.
Father's Day Stall
Father's Day Stall in week 6, Friday 30th August.
The Father's Day Stall is run solely on donations. A donated gift costing from $2-$5, or $5-$10, or $10-12 is what helps the community council and parent volunteers run the stall and the set up and organisation prior. Traditionally the stall runs to help ease pressure of busy families (as we all are) so that the children can pick a gift of their choice for their Dad. The kids love doing this and the playground is a buzz with talk about what they may buy for the day. Gifts are priced affordably on the day ranging from $2; $5; $10.
If you still have gift or gifts to bring in, we welcome them!!
I have made a quick list of ideas I have seen over the years. If you gift bags, or cards, they never go astry either.

In today's world, where distractions are abundant and the pressure to excel is high, guiding children to develop healthy study habits is more important than ever. As students aspire to achieve academic success, the cornerstone of that achievement lies not just in their intelligence or drive, but in the study habits they cultivate.
It's essential for students to recognise that good study habits aren't merely about spending extra hours hitting the books. It's more about quality over quantity and having a more balanced approach. Emphasising the value of a routine is essential. Consistent study times establish a sense of structure and discipline, turning studying into a natural part of their daily routine rather than a burdensome task.
Additionally, how students approach their study sessions is equally important. Taking regular breaks is a crucial part of this process in maintaining focus and preventing burnout.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle that includes sufficient sleep, a balanced diet, and consistent physical activity are indispensable elements that will significantly impact your child's ability to study effectively. Fostering these healthy habits is one of the most valuable gifts we can offer children, paving the way for a lifetime of learning and achievement.
This Special Report will help you support your young person as they embark on studying for exams.
