2025 Term 1 Week 9
As we continue our Lenten journey together, I take a moment to reflect on the small but powerful ways we see Jesus alive in our school community each day.
Loving God,
During this season of Lent, help us to walk gently with others, speak kindly, and act justly.
May we open our hearts to You through prayer, reflection, and love in action.
Guide us to be people of compassion, forgiveness, and hope.
May we be reminded that even the smallest gesture—a smile, a warm greeting, a helping hand—can make a difference in someone’s day.
To our students who make Jesus real by the way they treat others—with kindness, respect, and joy—thank you. Your smiles, your welcome, and your willingness to include and care for others truly bring the message of Jesus to life in our school.
Wishing you all peace and grace this Lent.
Best wishes to all our Reconciliation students—we continue to pray for you!
We extend our warmest wishes to the students preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
This is a special step in their faith journey, where they come to understand the importance of saying sorry, experiencing forgiveness, and feeling the peace that comes from making things right.
It’s a time for reflection, growth, and learning about God’s love and mercy. We are proud of each one of them and know they will carry this experience with them in their hearts.
Thank you to our families, teachers, and parish community for supporting our students during this important milestone.
THE EXCITEMENT IS BUILDING....
We are looking forward to our Athletics Carnival this Friday! It has been a privilege to witness the students, guided by their dedicated teachers, preparing for both the marching and the track and field events.
Already, we have seen some impressive high jump performances in the Y3-6 finals (thanks Vaughn for coordinating the High-Jump Finals.)
A big thank you to both staff and students for the effort they have put into preparing for the carnival—especially while keeping up with the regular teaching and learning happening at school. A special thank you to Mrs McNamara, who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the day runs smoothly..
We can’t wait to see the students showcase their school spirit and celebrate their participation and achievements together.
ANZAC DAY MARCH
A reminder that ANZAC Day falls during the school holidays. All students (K–6) are invited to join us in the community march.
Meeting Point: 10:30 AM outside Ian’s Auto Shop, Auburn Street
Uniform: Full Winter Academic Uniform
Pick-Up: Market Street (near the Soldiers Club)
Please register your child via the Compass post. We’d love to see as many St Joseph’s students as possible representing our school with pride.
Teacher Profiles
Hi, I’m Mrs Amanda McGregor and I am lucky to be teaching Year 4 Blue. I have three children and enjoy spending time with my family, traveling and exploring new places. I am very fortunate to have lived and worked as a teacher in London and I love being a part of the St Joseph’s school community.
Fun fact - I went to St Joseph’s and was in Loreto!
Privilege Students
Congratulations to our Week 10 Privilege Students
Stella B, Lilah C, Maci B, Ardon L, Adelaide P and Charlotte C.
May God bless you and your families

Gospel
John 8:1-11 Jesus does not condemn the woman caught in adultery.
Jesus was teaching in the Temple area. Feeling threatened by his teaching and his actions, the chief priests and the Pharisees are already sending guards to arrest Jesus. The guards return, however, without arresting Jesus because they have been impressed by his words. Even more than this, some among the crowds are considering the possibility that Jesus is the Messiah. The chief priests and the Pharisees change their plan. Before making an arrest, they seek to gather more evidence against Jesus by posing a question intended to trap Jesus.
The scribes and the Pharisees approach Jesus, bringing a woman who has been caught in the act of adultery. They put to Jesus the question of what ought to be done in this case. To answer the Pharisees' question, Jesus must propose an action that will be either contrary to the Law of Moses or contrary to Roman law. Jesus avoids the trap, however, by offering an answer that was not anticipated by those who posed the question. Jesus, after writing on the ground with his finger, addresses those who stand before him and suggests that the one without sin cast the first stone.
Project Compassion
Thank you to everyone who has brought money in and are continuing to do jobs and seek money that we can give to people who are less fortunate than our selves.
Mini Vinnies have counted up $1125.95, with the wonderful 2 Red leading the count with $230.30, followed by 2 Blue with $151.05, 3 Red with $109.85 & K Red with $108.50.
We have one more week of term to go, so if you have not sent your money box in yet, please do so. Please also have a chat to your children, as it has been reported to me that some students are taking money from their Project Compassion Money Boxes to spend on themselves at the canteen of places outside of the school.
Reconciliation
Tomorrow night, Thursday 3rd April, starting at 7pm, 10 students will be making their First Reconciliation. This Sacrament is a healing Sacrament, that we can make repeatedly throughout our lives.
Reconciliation is available to all parishioners tomorrow night. Students making their Frist Reconciliation will need to sit in the first few pews of the Cathedral, with their families in undesignated pews behind.
I recommend families have dinner first, and bring a jumper/jacket as it can get cold inthe Cathedral, especially after the sun has gone down.
Stations of the Cross
Join Stage 3 next Thursday, 10th April for Stations of the Cross, beginning at 9:45 in the hall. This is a traditional event, that is quite moving and symbolic to what lead up to the Crucifixion.
Families are more than welcome to walk with their child's class. We just ask as you wait in the hall or are processing around the Stations, please keep a respectful, dignified silence, and try not to gain the attention of the students who are forming the Statues.
Go Joeys! Outstanding Sporting Achievements
Congratulations to our amazing swimmers who are representing the Archdiocese at the MacKillop Swimming Carnival today! We know they’ll give it their all and represent our school with pride. Well done to:
Grace Martin, Lucy Grant, Piper Webber, John Edwards, Stella Bowden, Belinda Jiang, Sophie Quade, and Chayse Toole.
What a fantastic achievement already—Go Joeys Swimmers!
We also received more outstanding sporting news from last Friday, with four students selected to represent the NSW MacKillop Hockey Team. Congratulations to Gracie Croker, Chelsea Cartwright, Chayse Toole and Mitchell Bensley on this incredible achievement. Representing at this level is something to be very proud of!
Well done to all—your hard work, dedication, and team spirit continue to inspire our school community.
Easter Hat Parade
On Thursday 10th April (Week 11), the SRC will be hosting our Easter Hat Parade. It will be in the afternoon session, beginning at 2:15pm.
Now is the time to start getting your hats ready!
You can use your hat from last year, add or change some decorations, or design something new.
We love seeing your creativity, especially using recycled materials!
Here are some examples of simple Easter hats to get you started.

Canteen News
Volunteers most welcome, please email the canteen canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au
Our school canteen is open on Thursday and Friday.
Orders need to be placed by Qkr! before 8:30am on the day of order.
Whilst we understand accidents happen it does place a large strain on our canteen and office staff to assist in these situations.
To try to avoid this, please follow some of the steps below:
- How to order – place your order using the Qkr! app or write on a paper bag and send the order in with your child.
- Order on the app and confirm the date that you have selected is for the day you require.
- If your child is selecting the food please check it before you confirm the order (we now need to limit garlic bread to students as some were ordering up to 10 in one order)
- If your child is absent and no longer is required to receive the order please cancel prior to 8:30am on the day of order.
You can receive a Qkr credit note if you tap on the 3 lines at the top left of the home screen, select ‘my receipts’ and then select the order you wish to cancel. - If your child doesn’t have a lunch and they realise before 10:00am a phone call will be made to parents to ask them to bring lunch to school for them.
If you are unable we will provide your child with a basic sandwich (vegemite or cheese) and an IOU envelope will be sent home. - IOU’s - if your child brings home an IOU envelope please either return the envelope with cash payment or alternatively you can pay for it via Qkr using the “Canteen Outstanding Amounts”
- If you are unaware of the amount currently outstanding to your child please email canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au and we can advise.
- There is a limit of $10 for over the counter purchases. Please do not send your child in with more than this as we will not accept $50 or $20 notes.
If you need to contact the school about lunch orders, please email canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au or contact the school office 4821 3510 before 9:30 am.
If you are able to volunteer in the canteen please contact the office or email the canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au with your availability.

Mother's Day is sneaking up:
Mother’s Day preparation for early next term!
A reminder as a part of the St Joseph’s Mothers’ Day celebrations, the Community Council will be running a stall for Mother’s Day on Friday, 9th May. (On Wednesday 7th May for Year 6 students due to camp).
Children will be given the opportunity to buy item/s from the stall on this day with tables having gifts valued at $2 and $5.
For this to happen we ask that families donate a small gift/s to be sold at the stall.
Donations can be left at the office up until Wednesday 7th May.
If you are able to volunteer some of your time on the day to help with the Mother’s Day Stall, please let Danie or Paula in the office know, or alternatively email Paula at
paula.quinlan@cg.catholic.edu.au
If you would like to help with our Mother’s Day Stall, please come to the school hall on Thursday 8th May at 3:15 pm to help set up the stall / tables. Or 9:00 am on Friday to help our little treasures select the perfect gift for their mum. When donating your gift, please give something that you would be happy to receive.
Some ideas might include:
• small photo frames
• coaster sets or placemats
• jewellery – a nice bangle, earrings
• nice soap / washer / bath salts
• gardening gloves and packet of seeds
• jar or container filled with lollies
• pretty notebook & pen
• candles

The children will be so excited to choose and buy something special for their mum.
We would love your feedback!!!

We’re also currently brainstorming ideas on improvements we can make within our school. These include putting a roof over the car line waiting area , painted artworks to improve connection with sporting houses, and new school gazebos to name a few.
We know that the best ideas often come from the people who care the most about our school and we would love to hear from YOU.
Here’s how you can help:

How to talk so kids will listen & listen so kids will talk
Parenting is relentless, and with so many resources and voices, it's hard to know what to try or who or what to listen to.
This is a book that was recommended to me 6 years ago and it has stood the test of time being first published in 1980. I have been listening to recently as an audio book. It seems to understand with empathy the everyday challenges and has a range of timeless, practical approaches.
Here is a link to the book if you want to read / listen to it.

Cybersafety
Young people today are growing up in an increasingly connected world where technology is part of their everyday lives –– for learning, socialising, and entertainment. While the digital world offers enormous benefits, it also comes with serious risks. From cyberbullying and online predators to inappropriate content and screen time concerns, navigating the online environment can be challenging for young people and their families.
Cybersafety is not just about blocking access –– it's about empowering young people with the knowledge and skills they need to use technology responsibly and safely. This includes understanding privacy settings, recognising scams, and developing healthy digital habits. At the same time, it's important for parents and caregivers to stay informed, have open and judgement-free conversations with their children, and lead by example through positive online behaviour.
In today's digital age, safeguarding a child's wellbeing must also include protecting their online life. This edition of SchoolTV will help you better understand the digital landscape your child is navigating and offer practical strategies to help them stay safe, confident and in control online.
